Porsche Cars - a brief summary
Founded by Austrian Ferdinand Porsche in 1931, the Porsche marque has endured to become one of the world’s leading car brands.
After designing the Volkswagen Beetle, World War II intervened and Porsche’s son Ferry took the helm and the first models, which became the 356, were put into production in 1947 and followed by various derivatives. In 1964 the company launched the 911, an air-cooled rear engined sports car which has since become Porsche’s best known and definitive model.
